Many members lurk because they’re still observing, learning the culture, or not ready to contribute. Some prefer reading over posting, while others may feel unsure about their input or worried about judgment. Lurking is often a normal step before active participation.
I think many silent members simply don't know how to join a conversation or don't feel confident enough to post. Asking easy, specific questions and making new members feel welcome can help. Even small things like replying positively to first comments can make participation feel much less intimidating.
