Selecting keywords could be a very difficult thing to do. Not all keywords are the same. There are some kinds of keywords that are less competitive. However, the actual demand of those keywords is not high. This means that if you write an article using those keywords, you may not get enough traffic. High- competitive keywords drive good traffic but it is so hard to write content and gain traffic because high ranking websites already capture high position on the first page of search engine. So what mistakes do people make while selecting keywords?

First mistake: not using the keywords customers use. I had a few clients who struggled to understand the exact wording their potential clients used. As soon as you know how people talk about your services (what words are used), you can have your initial keyword set.

Another problem: not using secondary keywords and FAQs. People have questions and objections, use them to build blog posts, to explain, to educate. These keywords usually get faster traction, as they are less competitive and also allow you to be seen as an authority in your niche.

One common keyword mistakes is they target terms that are too broad or too competitive. Ignoring search intent and focusing only on high-volume words instead of relevant ones are some other mistakes. Some also forget to use long-tail keywords, neglect local SEO, or skip updating keyword lists as trends change.

One major mistake is people choose high traffic keywords. However, it is really difficult to rank for high traffic keywords. Another major mistake is they target low volume keyword. While ranking is easy, getting traffic is difficult.

Most of the time people use generic keywords that don’t match what users are actually searching for, ignoring long-tail keywords, and failing to research competitors. Some also overstuff keywords in content, which harms SEO.
