Generally speaking, User Generated Content is considered being poor quality. That's because the common users do not have SEO writing skills, they don't make use of elements that will improve SEO on their posts. However, if you check the websites that are frequently being quoted by AI, you will see that a lot of them are UGC sites like Reddit, Quora, Youtube, etc.

What are you thoughts on SEO value of User Generated Content sites?

Search engines like Google are heavily sold on authenticity and trust. The framework of (E-E-A-T) that Google in particular uses to rank sites would always place priority on the sites that have user generated contents. For Google and those search engines, those User Generated Contents on Quora, Reddit and other popular communities are experiences from real people and that is authenticity. People share real life challenges on those platforms and the get real life practical solutions. Google sets it's algorithm to recognize such sites and rank them high in search results.

I think it's an interesting and somewhat contradictory topic. It's true that a lot of user-generated content doesn't follow good SEO practices: it lacks strategic keywords, clear structures, or internal links. However, sites like Reddit, Quora, and YouTube demonstrate that the value of content doesn't always depend on technical perfection. What really matters is relevance, freshness, and community engagement. Search engines prioritize useful answers, engagement, and platform authority, even if each individual post isn't perfect. That's why UGC can have a very high SEO impact: thousands of users are constantly creating content, generating fresh topics and authentic answers. In my opinion, these sites are valuable because they combine volume, relevance, and engagement signals—something that many traditional websites can't match. The key is knowing how to moderate and organize that content to make it accessible and useful.

User-generated content can boost SEO by increasing fresh content, keywords, and engagement. Reviews, comments, and forum posts improve indexing and organic traffic. However, moderation is essential to prevent spam and maintain quality for search engines. If you have genuine users, I believe your UGC will also have good quality posts

User generated content can certainly add fresh content, however, just because you have fresh content does not mean it will improve your chances of excelling on search engine. The content created by users should also be optimized for search engines and these content must also be well written.
