We have various forums where we can find moderators. Each forum has at least one moderator or admin who manages the forum. However, under certain circumstances, forum members can self-manage the forum without moderator intervention. Do you think that administration should be too strict or should they allow the forum members to self-manage the forum?

Allowing the community to self-manage can build trust and strengthen engagement, but it carries risks. Without proper oversight, rules might be ignored, conflicts can escalate, and misinformation may spread. It works best with clear guidelines, active moderators, and trusted members helping maintain balance and accountability.

Allowing the community to self-manage a forum might not benefit the site. Without moderation, discussions can drift off-topic, rules may be broken, and conflicts can rise. While member involvement is valuable, oversight from dedicated moderators ensures quality, consistency, and a safe environment for everyone.

It is not advisable for you to allow members to interfere with the management and running of the community. It shows that there is no structure in that community. It's best to work with known staff members that every other general members are going to respect.
