Some communities integrate payments and escrow, on their marketplace while others keep transactions private between users, and do not offer any kind of mediation.Does adding payment tools increase safety, or does it create legal and moderation headaches?

Frankly speaking, I haven't seen any community integrate Escrow on their marketplaces. It is usually private payment between the users. However, some community mediate the issue between the buyers and sellers when something goes wrong.

That makes sense. Integrating Escrow in community marketplaces could reduce disputes by holding funds until both parties fulfill their obligations, but it adds operational complexity and liability. Mediation by the community is a lighter approach, though it relies heavily on trust and active moderation. A hybrid model might balance security with simplicity.

It depends on the community’s size and trust level. Direct payments can make transactions smoother, but they also increase risk, disputes, and admin responsibility. Many forums work better acting as facilitators, using reputation systems and clear rules, while letting payments happen off-platform.
