Building backlinks means you share your websites link on someone’s website. The more backlinks you build, the better your position on search engines. Sharing links on social media is a very common practice. Is sharing link links on social media also consider backlink building?

Links posted on social media is not counted as backlinks but you can get social signals by sharing links on social media and social signals also work like backlinks. The post that are more social signals are likely to ranked higher. Social signals are the links, share, comments on the shared posts.

Oh, I see. So while social media links aren’t traditional backlinks, the engagement they generate, like shares, likes, and comments, act as social signals that can still influence search rankings, right?

Technically yes, because although backlinks are based on leaving your links, for example, in forums through keywords or directly, the fact that you leave the link on your own social network also applies as a backlink, so let's say it's 50% backlink, 50% no, haha.

I think sharing links on social media can be considered link building because it drives traffic and can improve visibility. However, social links are usually “nofollow,” so they don’t directly boost SEO but help with brand awareness and engagement.

Well, based on the new Google guidelines and how they now rank websites, having a decent social media activity and a lot of "citations" works to build your brand online and it's a serious ranking factor. I personally HATE social media with a passion, but understand its importance so I am starting to make more efforts :)

While sharing links on social media cannot be called link building or backlinking, social media links can certainly help your website get ranked better. if your links get a lot of engagements on social sites, your websites might also get a push on search engine ranking.

Sharing links on social media can help generate traffic, but it's not always considered traditional backlink building. The backlinks that truly influence rankings are those that come from relevant, authoritative external websites where others recognize your content as a reference. Social media, while useful for visibility and outreach, often use links with "nofollow" attributes, meaning they don't directly transmit authority to your website for SEO. However, sharing links on these platforms can increase the likelihood that other sites will discover your content and link to it organically, generating authentic backlinks. In short, social media is more of a means of facilitating backlinks than a direct source of authority, but combining it with quality content strategies can boost your search engine results and attract visitors who will eventually convert into real links to your site.
