Promoting a community through ads is tricky, you’re selling participation, not products. Do you advertise discussion topics, benefits, or exclusive access? Which ad formats have brought in genuine members instead of one-time visitors?

You can certainly promote forums or membership sites with digital ads but first you need to begin with defining your target audience and their interests. Use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Google Ads to reach them. Highlight the community’s value, exclusive content, or networking opportunities. Track conversions, test different ad creatives, and optimize regularly to attract engaged members efficiently. Last but not least begin with small budget, check performance and then gradually increase your ad budget.

Digital ads can help grow forums if the message focuses on why the community matters, not just on joining. I think short video ads or carousels, or a strong entry thread, work well, and also retargeting for conversions. I believe you also need to track sign-ups and engagement, because clicks alone don’t build a real community.
