Handling Staff Turnover Without Service Gaps

Moderator departures can leave forums unmonitored. Should new hires overlap with experienced staff? How do admins prevent gaps in enforcement and community trust?

I have two moderators for one of my forums. One of the moderators hasn't logged in for months, and another one is frequently absent. I am thinking to hire new moderators.

I think having some overlap is helpful because it gives new moderators time to learn the culture, tools, and expectations before the older staff steps away. It keeps moderation consistent and prevents rule gaps that frustrate members. I believe clear guidelines, routine check-ins, and documented workflows also help maintain trust when roles change.
