Trends and virality from social media often disrupt forum tone and pacing. Should communities actively resist these pressures to preserve thoughtful discussion, or adapt to attract new traffic and engagement? How do forums strike a balance between maintaining culture and growing their audience?

Forums can actually resist external social media behavior with focus on thoughtful discussion but sadly a lot of forums are trying to copy social media and making discussion fun oriented or using visual graphics instead of text.

Probably only with high-quality posting and fostering a community feel. The pressure is real, most forums are struggling. You have reddit and quora, the rest are having to work extra.
