Contests, collaborations, and themed discussions often spike short-term activity, but can they create lasting cultural impact? How can forums design events that promote meaningful engagement, strengthen member relationships, and reinforce ethical and sustainable discussion practices rather than just generating temporary excitement?

I think community events can build long term engagement, I have seen this happen in many forums. However, this will be possible only when you already have active user base. I tried community events on communities I manage, sadly I did not get good participation because the forum didn't have a lot of active users.

Yes, community events can build long-term engagement by creating shared experiences and strengthening connections. They encourage participation, foster relationships, and give members a reason to return regularly. Well-planned events also reinforce community culture and make members feel valued.
