The maximum traffic I have seen in my forum was 10k visit in a day. That was on a sports forum. The forum was receiving 5-6k daily traffic and once it spiked to 10k.

My forum sees about 1k-3k daily visits, however, the highest was about 5k in one day. Some days are higher than others depending on the activity.
