There are many people who are running eCommerce business on their own. However, some people have partnered with others. When it comes to business partnerships, it is always a good idea to make sure that you select the right kind of partner. This is because selecting the right partner is very crucial. Your eCommerce business partner should be very honest and loyal. Your business partner should be trustworthy. Otherwise the partnership could get dissolved and the business may get affected in a very negative manner. Dissolution of partnership may lead to business getting closed down.

I personally don't work in teams and have never accepted to split ownership. Not even with my husband :D

I do have a few people I love working with, but it's either project-based or hourly. I own my company (sole proprietor) and it has been the best option so far.

To answer your question: you need 1000% trust in that person, you need to get along perfectly well and both to put the same amount of effort. What usually happens in such partnerships (exceptions confirm the rule) is that you have one partner who's investing the most time and effort, while the other is "coasting". Not to mention that, if things go South, you can lose your company for nothing.

Just like in any business, choosing the right partner for your eCommerce business is important because it affects everything from daily operations to long-term growth. Look for someone whose skills complement yours, for example, if you handle marketing, they could focus on logistics or finances. Make sure your values and business goals align, and discuss expectations early, including profit-sharing and responsibilities.

partner selection should be based on a couple of things, such as interest (your partner should be interested in the business model). Secondly, skills and knowledge (your partner should have knowledge and skills), thirdly, active participation (your partner should actively participate in day to day operation)

When choosing an eCommerce partner, look for complementary skills, shared vision, and trustworthiness. Evaluate their experience in business, marketing, or operations, and discuss expectations, responsibilities, and exit strategies upfront. A strong partnership balances strengths, mitigates weaknesses, and supports long-term growth.
