Vague briefs waste time. Clear guidelines ensure your brand message lands right. How detailed is your typical influencer brief?

What key info do you always include in your influencer campaign briefs?

I always include campaign goals, target audience details, key messages, brand tone, content guidelines, deadlines, deliverables, and any legal or disclosure requirements. Clear expectations help influencers create authentic, effective content that aligns with the brand’s vision.

What do you intend to do, what kind of content do you plan on using for your campaign, how long you will be running the campaign, what is your goal for sales, traffic, lead generation? Things like these are very important before you start a marketing campaign, including influencer marketing.

In my case, I always include these key points: the description of the brand and its purpose, specific objectives of the campaign, the target audience we want to reach, the type of content we are looking for, that is, the format of the content, the tone and style, and also that the key message must appear and have hashtags without fail.

I’ve learned the hard way that vague briefs can completely derail an influencer campaign. When I first started, I assumed influencers would “just get it,” but that led to inconsistent messaging and wasted time. Now, I always make sure my briefs are as clear and detailed as possible without being overwhelming.
For every campaign, I include the campaign goal upfront whether it’s brand awareness, engagement, or driving sales. I also specify the target audience, so influencers know who they’re speaking to and can tailor their content accordingly. Product details are a must: features, benefits, key points to highlight, and any usage instructions or demo ideas.
I also outline content expectations, like preferred formats (Reels, Stories, posts), tone of voice, and brand guidelines for visuals and messaging. Deadlines, posting schedules, and any hashtags or handles that must be included are clearly listed too.

The more detailed you are, the better. Influencer marketing can get you some decent ROI or just waste a pretty hefty budget. Have exact goals and track progress carefully. It's a hit and miss.

I believe that marketing briefs should be comprehensive and designed in such a way that customer gets induced to buy your product. Marketing briefs include marketing strategies that allow the company to follow a specific marketing plan, which could be very useful for the company, as it needs to create a good amount of budget for that.
