Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce, what is your ideal choice? Picking the right platform impacts your store’s success. What platform do you use, and why? Any pitfalls to avoid when setting up an eCommerce site?

When I started my first ecommerce business, I used woocommerce. There are a couple of reasons why I chose woocommerce. First of all, I knew wordpress well, so running an online store with woocommerce in wordpress was easier for me. I also chose woocommerce because it was free and I wanted to start low. What you choose depends on your skills and resources you have at your disposal.

It depends 100% on what you are looking for, the most recommended is Shopify, but of course, being the most used and recommended it is also the most expensive, the second best option which is a little cheaper is Woocommerce and the third one that I see is gaining popularity is BigCommerce, it all depends on your budget and what you are looking for, in the same way all 3 work well, they just differ in features

The most important factor is your skill and money you have. If money is not a problem and if you do not have any skills running an ecommerce website, you can go with something like shopify. If you want something scalable Drupal Commerce or magento can be a great option

Choosing the right eCommerce platform depends on your business needs. Consider factors like ease of use, customization options, payment gateways, scalability, integrations, and budget. Popular options include Shopify for simplicity, WooCommerce for flexibility, and BigCommerce for growth potential.

Look at its Scalability: Can the platform handle increased traffic and sales volume as your business grow. Integrations:
Does the platform allow you to connect with other business tools like CRM, ERP, or accounting software?

Business needs and scalability are some of the factors that you need to consider while choosing the ecommerce platform. For example, woocommerce can solve most of the business needs and is easy to operate but it has scalability issues. Magento is easily scalable but it requires advance skills.

I think more than anything, costs of a particular e-commerce platform in relation to the budget of the proposed e-commerce owner is a big factor to choose an e-commerce platform to build your e-commerce site. Some sites have a subscription fee and others charge a percentage of each sale. All of this must be considered in choosing an e-commerce platform.

Cost of creating a store is very important factor. A lot of people end up shutting down their store due to the high cost of running the store. Another important factor to consider is your skills to run the forum. You should have skills to utilize the platform you want to use.

Great topic idea ;)

I started out with Open Cart back in the day, have done some work on Magento (which I see was bought by Adobe). Then I moved to Wordpress and used WooCommerce more. Currently that's the only option for me.

I have done work on Shopify for my clients, but it's too clunky and hard to SEO for my taste.

Choosing the right platform is key to the success of an online store. Personally, I've used Shopify and like it because it's very intuitive, easy to set up, and has many apps that make managing products, payments, and shipping easier. Additionally, technical support is reliable and consistent. However, be aware of the additional costs of apps and the limitations of customization if you want a very specific design. WooCommerce is excellent if you're already familiar with WordPress and want full control, but it can be more technical and requires constant maintenance. BigCommerce is also solid, especially for larger stores, but can be more expensive to scale. I think the most important thing is to analyze your business needs before deciding, considering budget, scalability, and ease of use. Choosing the wrong one can lead to integration issues and limit store growth.
